Some coaches might try to downplay how good their team can be this early in the season. Ryan Day is not one of those coaches.

On Tuesday, Day met with the media during his weekly presser and was asked how early he can tell when he’s got something special in the locker room. The first year Ohio State head coach wasn’t afraid to say that he believes this team has the potential to do big things this season.

“I think we can be great. We’re nowhere near where we need to be, but we can be [special],” Day said. “We have the ability, we have the talent, we have the leadership. But if we want to get to where we want to go, we have to take it one week at a time. I know it’s cliché, but we just keep talking about you just have to do a great job today…If we train the way we train, Saturdays will take care of themselves.”

If this team is nowhere near how good it can be, just how scary will the Buckeyes be as the season goes on?
