The Block O honors the legacy of Ohio State legend Bill Willis, who played for the Buckeyes in the 1940s. He was on Ohio State’s first National Championship team in 1944 and had a lengthy NFL career with the Cleveland Browns.

Last year’s recipient of the Block O was Jonathon Cooper, who now plays for the Denver Broncos.

“I put a lot of hard work in and I’m just so happy,” Munford said in the video. “I’m just so blessed to actually be here as a representative of Block 0, Bill Willis. It’s just a blessing just to be the Block 0 because the amount of hard work that I put in, that my teammates put in…”

Munford’s jersey this season will include a Block O patch, coach Ryan Day said.

Munford was an All-American for the Buckeyes last season and could have opted to begin his NFL career. Instead, he chose to return to Columbus for another season with Ohio State. He was also named a team captain earlier this month.
