Carsen Edwards joined elite company with his 42-point performance
Carsen Edwards was an All-B1G and All-American selection for a reason. The Purdue guard has the ability to light it up from anywhere on the floor. And on Saturday, he joined some pretty elite company.
Edwards scorched Villanova for 42 points in Saturday’s second round game of the NCAA Tournament, leading Purdue to an 87-61 win to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The performance marked the second time Edwards has hit 30-plus points in a tournament game, becoming just the fourth Boilermaker in program history to exceed that total multiple times.
The other three players were Glenn Robinson, Joe Barry Carroll and Rick Mount. Robinson had four games in which he scored 30 points or more and Carroll had three. Mount and Edwards each have two.
Carsen Edwards finishes with a career-high 42 points, which trails only Glenn Robinson's 44 in 1994 vs Kansas for the most by a Purdue player in an NCAA Tournament game. His 9 made 3's broke a school record for any game. #BoilerUp #MarchMadness https://t.co/dZMLTKi4rc

As if that wasn’t enough, Edwards’ 42 points fell just two points short of tying Robinson’s 44-point performance against Kansas in 1994 to set a school record. His total ranks second in Purdue’s tournament history.
Edwards also knocked down nine shots from three-point range, which is a new school record for any game. Not a bad day for the All-American.
Purdue has been one of the top teams in college basketball over the last three months. If Edwards can light it up like that again, the Boilermakers will be nearly impossible to beat.
