Drew Brees has put up a remarkable career in the NFL, but his playing time was put on hold recently.

Brees injured the thumb on his throwing hand in a game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The star signal-caller for the New Orleans Saints had his thumb bent awkwardly after it was slapped by defensive lineman Aaron Donald.

Initial reports were that Brees will be out at least six weeks and needed surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. It is a tough blow to the former Purdue star, but he took to social media with an update of his status Wednesday.

Thankfully, Brees posted a photo on Instagram to say his surgery was successful. While he appears in decent spirits, it looks like his right hand is out of commission for a bit with a thick cast up to the tip of his thumb.

Now that the surgery is done, hopefully, he can rest up and rehab from the injury quickly.
