Gary Patterson has been around college football a long time now. There’s not a lot he hasn’t seen.

You could argue, though, that he maybe hasn’t seen a player quite like Rondale Moore in his career. The Purdue wide receiver is one of the most athletic, talented and speediest receivers in the B1G and college football. There aren’t many players capable of doing what he can.

But, for Patterson, Moore is no different than some of the other talented players TCU has faced in recent years. It’s not that Moore doesn’t impress Patterson — he does — but that the Horned Frogs are seeing players similar to Moore in the Big 12.

At least that’s what Patterson says.

“It’s not going to be the first time that we’ve played somebody that’s as mobile and athletic as what Rondale is,” Patterson said, according to 247Sports. “Now, he’s a really good player. You can tell he’s a really smart player, too. Because they do a lot of things with him, so he can learn and he can do things, and I think he’s highly competitive.”

Moore has picked up in 2019 where he left off in 2018. The sophomore receiver leads the NCAA in receptions (24), receiving yards (344) and all-purpose yards (459) through two games. He’s accounted for two touchdowns, as well.

Purdue may have to overcome a significant offensive loss this weekend, though, as quarterback Elijah Sindelar has suffered a mild concussion, according to head coach Jeff Brohm. That means Jack Plummer — who has extremely limited experience — would be under center for the Boilermakers if Sindelar can’t go.

That puts even more pressure on Moore to produce.

In big games, Moore has shined very bright through his first 15 games in West Lafayette. While he’s been impressive, it’s nothing out of the ordinary for Patterson. At least that’s what he’s saying right now.
