The knee injury Elijah Sindelar sustained about a week ago doesn’t seem to be nearly as some had speculated, after all.

Last week, Black and Gold Illustrated reported that Sindelar suffered a knee injury and would miss the remainder of spring practice, as well as Purdue’s spring game scheduled for Saturday, April 6. After battling an ACL injury at the end of the 2017 season and a lingering issue last fall, the status of Sindelar moving forward was a bit in question.

On Wednesday, Sindelar told reporters that he hyperextended his left knee during a drill, but says the injury shouldn’t be a big deal when summer and fall roll around.

“I could probably practice right now if I had to,” Sindelar said, according to the Journal & Courier. “If it was in the season, I would be practicing.”

With an experienced quarterback like Sindelar, taking precautionary measures to ensure he’s healthy for the season is probably the best move. It’s an especially smart decision considering the youth at the quarterback position now that David Blough is gone.

Sindelar has appeared in 19 career games for the Boilermakers and has thrown for 2,547 yards and 20 touchdowns. His most active year came in the first season under Jeff Brohm, sharing the field with Blough. That year, Sindelar threw for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns while leading Purdue to a 7-6 record and a win in the Foster Farms Bowl over Arizona.

He played in the final three games with a torn ACL.

Last year, Sindelar began the year as the starter in the first two games but was replaced by Blough for Purdue’s third game against Missouri. A lingering injury kept him off the field for the final 11 games of the season.

With limited experience on the roster at quarterback, Sindelar is expected to regain his spot as the starter entering the 2019 campaign.
