Oregon State looks to be down one of their best defensive players to start the season.

Earlier on Tuesday, head coach Jonathan Smith said defensive end Isaac Hodgins had to have foot surgery and he’ll be sidelined for 8 weeks.

As Daschel’s tweet also says, Hodgins has 30 starts as a Beaver and he’s also coming off one of his best seasons. For the 2020 season, Hodgins had 28 total tackles (16 solo) and 1.5 sacks.

His 28 total tackles were the second-most he’s had for his collegiate career behind his freshman year in 2018. For that season, Hodgins finished with 29 total tackles (13 solo) with 2.5 sacks.

For his career, Hodgins has 78 total tackles (38 solo) with 5 sacks and one pass defended. Despite the 8 week surgery, this put him on track to return by mid-October, which is right around the halfway point of the season.

Oregon State’s matchup with Purdue for Week 1 will be on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. ET. It’ll be televised by FS1.
