Just about everyone has given Purdue the thumbs up for lassoing Jeff Brohm and bringing him to West Lafayette.

Sports Illustrated gave Purdue an ‘A’ in its coaching hire grades. CBS Sports ranked Brohm as the top hire of all the coaching changes at the end of the 2016 season.

And now, the latest coach of the Boilermakers received high praise from a college football legend: Howard Schnellenberger.

Schnellenberger is most notably known for his five-year run with the Miami Hurricanes from 1979 through 1983, posting a 41-16 record, winning two bowl games and claiming the 1983 national title. Just two years later, Schnellenberger took the head coaching job at Louisville, where he convinced Brohm to spend his college career.

In an interview with the Journal & Courier, Schnellenberger spoke highly of Brohm, saying “I follow him wherever he goes and I brag about him whenever I can.”

Brohm was at Louisville from 1989 to 1993, and led the Cardinals to a 9-3 record as a started in the 1993 season. That year, Brohm completed 185-of-304 passes for 2,626 yards and 20 touchdowns.

It was Brohm’s work ethic, though, that stuck out to the legendary head coach:

He was at the head of his class and was always the first one in and the last one out at practice and meetings.

Schnellenberger believes that Brohm’s mentality will translate well at Purdue and in the B1G and thinks the Boilermakers made a good decision by hiring the former quarterback:

No, he didn’t get my opinion about Purdue. He and I stay in close contact. We talk to each other a lot. He’s not an advice seeker. We keep a good friendship. I follow him wherever he goes and I brag about him whenever I can. He’s the right man for the job.

If the compliments from places like Sports Illustrated, CBS Sports, and – most importantly – Saturday Tradition aren’t enough, maybe the words of Schnellenberger will turn you into a believer.
