Fall camps across the country are about to begin, but Purdue is still making moves and additions to the coaching staff.

According to Doug Samuels with Football Scoop, the Boilermakers are bringing on a former head coach and defensive coordinator. The addition will be David Elson who coached Western Kentucky from 2003-09.

The report by Samuels indicates Elson will serve in a quality control role for the defense as a part of Jeff Brohm’s staff. His addition will add to the revamped defensive staff at Purdue, a big point for Brohm this offseason.

Elson coached Western Kentucky through the Hilltoppers’ transition from an I-AA program up to the FBS level. He led the program to a 39-43 record during his time there but was just 2-22 once the program made it to the FBS level.

Elson also has stops as a DC at New Mexico State, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois, and Ball State since his time as a head coach. He most recently served as the DC at Ball State from 2017-19.
