Robbie Hummel was a member of some of the best teams Purdue has ever sent to the floor. He’s been a part of some incredible moments and witnessed some spectacular individual performances.

Hummel enjoyed a few of those memorable outings himself. But the basketball star-turned-analyst has never seen anything quite like what he saw from Carsen Edwards on Saturday night.

Edwards scored 42 points for the Boilermakers in their Elite Eight matchup against Virginia, knocking down 10 three-point shots in the process. It wasn’t enough, though, as Purdue fell 80-75 to the Cavaliers in heartbreaking fashion.

Still, Edwards’ night in Louisville is one that won’t soon be forgotten.

“The performance by Carsen Edwards was one of the best I’ve ever seen,” Hummel said on BTN. “I’ve never seen — I think in all my years of watching college basketball — a guy take over a game in the sense that he did against a team that’s as good defensively as Virginia is.”

Saturday night’s performance wasn’t the only time this postseason that Edwards awed the college basketball world. The All-American guard scored at least 26 points in all four NCAA Tournament games this year, including another 42-point effort in the Round of 32 against Villanova.

Though the Boilers fell short of reaching the Final Four, Edwards has etched his name as a March Madness legend. He was special in all four of Purdue’s tournament games.
