Rutgers athletic director Pat Hobbs has been working hard on a plan to bring fans to High Point Solutions Stadium for the Scarlet Knights’ home opener against Washington on Sept. 1.

As the season gets underway on Labor Day weekend, many from New Jersey will flock to the Jersey Shore to close out summer. So how does Hobbs plan to reroute people to Piscataway?

Bring the Jersey Shore to Rutgers, of course.

Per Keith Sargeant of NJ.com, the Knights’ AD and college officials have been working on a master plan to throw a “Shore party” as Rutgers hosts Washington.

“We are going to be one of the games that opens the college football season. it’s on a Friday and it’s a (holiday) weekend,” Hobbs told NJ.com. “If people want to be down the shore, it’s not going to interrupt their Shore plans. So on Friday night, come to Piscataway and hopefully we play well against a really, really good Washington team.”

Hobbs is working with potential sponsors to have boats occupy the open space behind the north end zone inside High Point Solutions Stadium.

Yeah, that’s right. Rutgers wants to have a boat party to kickoff the 2017 season.

In addition to bringing some boats into the stadium, the first 5,000 students in attendance will receive a beach towel and there will be a T-shirt giveaway. There will also be a Scarlet Knight sand sculpture.

After Rutgers finished 2-10 last season, it’s unlikely that many would choose to see the Scarlet Knights over one last trip to the Jersey Shore. Especially when they’re hosting Washington, which made the College Football Playoff a year ago. It’s a unique idea, though and Hobbs deserves plenty of credit.

But we’ll find out on Sept. 1 if Hobbs’ plan delayed some trips to the Shore.

The game between Rutgers and Washington is set to kickoff at 8 p.m.
