Jim Leonhard may be close to becoming Wisconsin’s next head coach head coach, per reports. It is believed Leonhard could be promoted to head coach as early as Sunday or Monday, according to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Jeff Potrykus.

Leonhard was named interim head coach Oct. 2 and has since led the Badgers to a solid 4-2 record and they are set to close out their season against Minnesota on Saturday.

Leonhard would be replacing Paul Chryst, who was fired after early this season after 7 years with Wisconsin.

According to the report, Wisconsin also considered Baylor’s Dave Aranda and Kansas’ Lance Leipold for the head coaching job. Aranda is a former Wisconsin defensive coordinator and Leipold coached UW-Whitewater for several seasons, making an impression on the Wisconsin officials.

Leonhard has made it clear that his sole focus is finishing out the season on a strong note, and then he will talk about his future with the Badgers, but has also expressed interest in the head coaching job, according to the report.
