The NCAA has released the 2017-18 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores and two B1G schools are among those with the highest.

Northwestern and Ohio State rank near the top of the APR scale in relation to the rest of the FBS schools. Northwestern’s 996 was the second-highest overall score among FBS schools, just one point behind Air Force, which scored a 997.

Ohio State was tied for the 11th-best score among FBS schools, posting a score of 987. It was the second-highest score among B1G schools and was tied with Rice and UCF.

Here’s what the overall top 10 looked like:

  1. Air Force (997)
  2. Northwestern (996)
  3. Clemson (992)
  4. Duke (992)
  5. Washington (991)
  6. Vanderbilt (991)
  7. Boston College (989)
  8. Nevada (989)
  9. Utah (989)
  10. Wake Forest (989)

The APR was implemented in 2003 to hold programs accountable for academic progress and success among student-athletes. It considers the eligibility, retention and graduation rate for each program.

According to the NCAA, “the APR system includes rewards for superior academic performance and penalties for teams that do not achieve certain academic benchmarks.”

Data for APR is announced each spring.
