Still, despite some legal and political hiccups, Ohio lawmakers got online sports betting over the goal line to set the stage for a massive Jan. 1, 2023 launch.

Not only did it come at an opportune time on the sports calendar as it fell on Sunday NFL Week 17 action of the 2022 regular season, but it also gave players the chance to wager on NBA, NHL, the college football title game (though Ohio State failed to reach it), and the NFL Playoffs, among other events.

Ohio’s eastern neighbor Pennsylvania taxes sports betting revenue at an astounding 36%, comparatively low to the 10% pushed in Ohio.
