After losing snaps to Kendrick Foster and Reggie Corbin early in the 2016 season, Illinois running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn has decided he’ll be headed elsewhere to complete his degree and finish his football career.

On Wednesday night, Vaughn sent out a tweet explaining that he would be transferring out of Champaign and would look at different options moving forward.

Vaughn just completed his sophomore season, but because he was benched in the final nine games of the season, it was highly unlikely that he would regain his position as the starting running back under Smith.

This was the message Vaughn tweeted.

Coming off a good freshman campaign in which he rushed for 723 yards and scored six touchdowns, Vaughn was expected to be the workhorse for the Illinois offense this past fall. But the back lost his starting role when B1G play began and Kendrick Foster and Reggie Corbin were seeing a majority of the snaps in the Illini backfield.

Vaughn rushed for just 301 yards and three TDs in 2016, carrying the ball 60 times for the year. He only had 20 touches in Illinois’ nine conference games.

Out of high school, Vaughn was considered a four-star recruit by 247 Sports and was poised to be one of the top offensive producers for the Illini. But it doesn’t appear that it’s going to work out that way with Smith and the new coaching staff.

There’s no indication where Vaughn might land, but he could provide quite a spark in several backfields.
