Football is a tough sport; there’s no questioning that.

There’s a saying around the world of sports that mentions availability as being the best ability and there is certainly truth to that. Injuries can cause players’ careers to end, and that’s what happened today to Iowa wide receiver Jay Scheel.

Here’s what Scheel posted on his Instagram earlier today:

After having two operations on each knee in addition to having further complications, Scheel decided the time to walk away is now. Scheel was a sophomore receiver for the Hawkeyes this past season, recording five catches for 56 yards.

Coming out of high school, he was a three-star recruit, listed as an athlete. According to 247 Sports, Scheel was the No. 33-ranked athlete in the Class of 2014 and the No. 3 player in the state of Iowa.

Looking at the comments made alongside his post, it is fair to say that Hawkeye fans will miss the 6-foot-1 pass-catcher from La Porte City, Iowa.
