The red zone woes haven’t cost Michigan just yet. Well, the Wolverines have left a lot of points on the field, but it hasn’t cost them a game.

But players and coaches understand that the troubles in the red zone can’t continue, especially if Michigan wants to compete in the B1G East. The Wolverines have made 10 trips inside the red zone but have scored just one touchdown. Against Florida, Cincinnati and Air Force, field goals were good enough to win.

It won’t be the case moving forward. Offensive lineman Mason Cole knows that.

“You really got to focus on finishing those drives,” Cole told 247Sports. “If we score a touchdown on all of those red zone trips during the game, it’s a different score, different game. Obviously there is emphasis on just finishing those drives because it would make a big difference in games.”

Games against Cincinnati and Air Force could’ve been decided in much more convincing fashion had the Wolverines added a few touchdowns to those red zone trips.

Michigan will need to find a way to punch the ball across the goal line this weekend, as the Wolverines travel to Purdue. The Boilermakers have converted on all 13 of their red zone trips, scoring 10 touchdowns.
