Brandon Lingen was hoping to become Mitch Leidner’s go-to target in 2016.

For now, that’ll have to wait.

Tracy Claeys announced that the tight end will be out 4-5 weeks with a broken clavicle. He’s expected to undergo surgery.

The injury wasn’t related to the shoulder injury he suffered during spring camp. He suffered it when he went up for a pass in the third quarter against Indiana State.

Lingen was an All-B1G Honorable mention selection in 2015. He had 428 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2015.

According to the Star-Tribune, Lingen will have a plate inserted because he suffered the same injury earlier in his college career.

The Gophers were already dealing with the loss of tailback Shannon Brooks, who emerged as a freshman last year. He’s expected to return in a few weeks.
