Urban Meyer made it a point to sign more in-state recruits in 2018 than he did in 2017.

It’s early, but Meyer made a big step in that direction on Wednesday.

Four-star all-purpose back Jaelen Gill, who is the No. 2 recruit in the state of Ohio, announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

He had some fun with the announcement, too.

Gill is the No. 3 all-purpose back and the No. 32 player overall in the 2018 class (247sports composite). The Westerville South (Ohio) recruit picked the Buckeyes instead of the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee and UCLA.

The 6-1, 182-pound back took visits to UCLA and USC, but ultimately chose to keep it local.

With his commitment, the Buckeyes appear to have found their H-back in the 2018 class. Ohio State now has commitments from four 2018 recruits, all of whom are ranked among the top 63 of the 247sports composite.

Gill was the Buckeyes’ first Ohio recruit in their 2018 class. The 247sports crystal ball also has OSU as 100-percent favorites to land the state’s top recruit, five-star Fairfield (Ohio) offensive tackle Jackson Carman.
