One of the best linebackers in B1G history is saying goodbye to football.

Former Ohio State star James Laurinaitis announced on Tuesday that after eight years in the NFL, he’s retiring.

He tweeted out the news:

Before Laurinaitis became an NFL starter, he was an All-American at Ohio State. The three-time consensus All-American won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy in 2006, the Butkus Award in 2007 and the Lott Trophy in 2008.

The former Buckeye was the first two-time B1G Defensive Player of the Year ever. He finished his college career with 365 tackles, 13 sacks and nine interceptions. All four of Laurinaitis’ Ohio State teams won conference titles.

Laurinaitis spent nearly all of his NFL career with the St. Louis Rams, who drafted him in the second round in 2009. His only season away from St. Louis was spent in New Orleans in 2016, but a quad injury cut his year short. It was the first time he missed a game in eight NFL seasons.

He finished his NFL career with 663 tackles, 16.5 sacks and 10 interceptions.
