The Buckeyes finished the year 11-1 and went 3-1 against opponents ranked in the top 25. Clemson went 12-1, claimed an ACC title and had a 4-1 record against top 25 teams. If both favorites were to win, Alabama and Ohio State would be battling for a national championship.
Clemson and Ohio State met in the 2014 Orange Bowl after the 2013 season. The Tigers went on to win that contest 40-35.
