At this time yesterday, Tyvis Powell was a feel-good local story.

The former Ohio State defensive back signed with the Cleveland Browns this offseason after he spent one season in Seattle. The Bedford, Ohio native, had hopes of getting his NFL career off the ground in his home state.

It made perfect sense that Powell would throw out the first pitch at the Cleveland Indians game on Friday night.

Well, until he was waived by the Browns.

That announcement was made on Friday morning, just hours before Powell was scheduled to throw out the first pitch.

According to Cleveland.com, it’s possible the Browns weren’t aware of Powell’s plans at the Indians game. The opportunity was reportedly made available through Powell’s agent and Ohio State.

Whatever the case, Powell is still a former Ohio State starter who played on a national championship team.

Cleveland fans have cheered for lesser accomplishments than that.
