As Thamel’s tweet states, the former Ohio State defensive coordinator will average $2.3 million annually as the man in charge of the Bearcats. With the Buckeyes, Fickell made $754,500 annually.
The extra $1.5 million or so certainly won’t hurt Fickell, and money is certainly one reason why coordinators take head coaching gigs. He was the highest-paid assistant on Ohio State’s coaching staff this past season.
Fickell’s last 15 seasons were spent with the Buckeyes, primarily focusing on the defensive side of the ball.
