Ex- Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and former university vice president Gary Schultz pleaded guilty on Monday to misdemeanor child endangerment for their roles in the Jerry Sandusky molestation case.

The punishment carries a maximum punishment of a $10,000 fine and up to five years in prison. Originally, Curley and Schultz were charged with felonies back in 2011.

Even though they pled guilty, PennLive.com reported that the judge said there was no agreement in place for their sentencing.

Penn State ex-President Graham Spanier was also charged for his role in the alleged coverup, but according to the Associated Press, he wasn’t in the Harrisburg court room on Monday. The AP reported that his prosecution “appears to be moving forward.”

The guilty plea was a result of former Penn State grad assistant Mike McQueary telling Joe Paterno that he witnessed Sandusky (he was retired after spending several decades on Paterno’s staff) abuse a boy in the shower. Paterno then relayed that complaint to Curley and Schultz, but no investigation was conducted.

None of the Penn State officials who learned of McQueary’s complaint alerted authorities or child services. Sandusky was only told by the PSU officials not to bring boys to campus.

Sandusky’s scandal broke in 2011, which led to his arrest and eventual conviction. All three PSU officials involved were arrested within the next year.
