Two key contributors from last year’s B1G championship team and College Football Playoff contender will be back in East Lansing this weekend.

Connor Cook and Shilique Calhoun encounter a bye week this Sunday, giving them time to head back to Spartan Stadium to cheer on a team that’s endured a disappointing year. Mark Dantonio made the comment on Thursday.

While Spartan fans have been searching for something to cheer for this season, they’ll at least be able to say they were in the stadium when Cook and Calhoun were present.

Cook threw for 3,131 yards and 24 TDs in his senior season while Calhoun recorded 49 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks in 2015.

Michigan State went 12-2 last season and 7-1 in the conference. It defeated Iowa in the B1G title game to claim the conference crown and a berth in the College Football Playoff. The Spartans were defeated by Alabama 38-0 in the Cotton Bowl in the semifinal game.

The Spartans host Rutgers at noon on Saturday.
