As a part of his B1G football tour, BTN Analyst Joshua Perry stopped at Illinois. He made sure to give some of his takeaways from his travels.

The 1st thing that Perry mentioned about his visit was the depth at the quarterback position in Champaign. He likes what he has seen from Syracuse transfer Tommy DeVito, and was as far to say that it looks like he has been in this offense for awhile now. However, Perry made sure to remind people that Artur Sitkowski still has what it takes as well.

“I really like what that group looks like right now,” said Perry. “Tommy DeVito transferring in, it feels like he’s been in this system for a long time and made bunch of really good plays at practice. Don’t forget about Art Sitkowski. Hasn’t played in awhile and is still getting ramped up, but that is going to be a really good QB room.”

Perry’s next takeaway involved the Illinois defensive backs. What he liked about the DB room is the length that the Fighting Illini DBs bring to the table. Perry believes that Bielema’s defensive backs have some developing to do, but will be a problem in the coming years.

“They’ve got some bodies in there,” said Perry. “I’m talking about longer corners with long arms, guys who have some really good range. Still a bit raw, got some development to do, but that room is going to be good.”

Lastly, Perry highlighted how much of a disciplined team Illinois is going to have in 2022.

“This is going to be a well-coached team,” said Perry. “I feel like maybe this is a team that coaching is gonna put them over the top. They were very efficient at practice.”
