If it’s not too early for opening weekend spreads, then it’s not too early for B1G Championship odds.

Golden Nugget came out with those odds on Friday, and surprisingly, Penn State wasn’t the favorite. In fact, the Lions weren’t even No. 2 in the list from the Las Vegas casino.

Penn State’s odds to win the B1G Championship were set 5-to-1, which was significantly less likely than fellow B1G East foes Michigan and Ohio State, which had 2-to-1 and 8-to-5 odds, respectively.

Those three, in addition to Wisconsin at 6-to-1, were the clear favorites to win the conference title. And Michigan State, coming off a 3-9 season in which it returns the second-fewest starters in the B1G, had the fifth-best odds.

Here were the rest of the odds (via @jorshp):

  • Ohio State — 8-5
  • Michigan — 2-1
  • Penn State — 5-1
  • Wisconsin — 6-1
  • Michigan State — 20-1
  • Northwestern — 20-1
  • Nebraska — 25-1
  • Iowa — 25-1
  • Minnesota — 25-1
  • Indiana — 50-1
  • Illinois — 150-1
  • Purdue — 150-1
  • Maryland — 150-1
  • Rutgers — 200-1

For what it’s worth, the Lions only had 18-to-1 odds to win the conference in July 2016. They definitely got more preseason respect in 2017, but is that enough for a team that could start the season ranked in the top five?
