Michigan State lost one of its top returning defenders in unconventional fashion.

The Spartans’ top returning linebacker, Jon Reschke, announced on Friday night that he’s transferring from MSU after making a “totally regrettable” comment involving a former teammate.

It’s unknown who or what the comment involved.

Reschke has one more year of eligibility left and will be eligible to play immediately.

The redshirt senior missed all but two games of his junior year with ankle injury. As a sophomore, Reschke emerged as one of MSU’s key defensive contributors. The former four-star recruit finished his MSU career with 101 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Reschke is the second projected starter to announce he was living the program. Offensive lineman Thiyo Lukusa quit football and is no longer enrolled at the school.

MSU will have its first spring practice on Saturday.
