According to the Daily Northwestern, Wildcats defensive end Xavier Washington was suspended from the team indefinitely after he was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Washington reportedly was arrested early on Sunday morning when cops were called to a disturbance at the 1900 block of Foster Street. Upon arrival, Washington then attempted to flee on foot, but was stopped by police.

Offers found 0.5 grams of cocaine on Washington. According to police, Washington was charged with one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The senior defensive end was expected to be one the Wildcats’ veteran starters in 2017. He played in all 13 games and started eight in 2016. Washington tied for the second-highest sack total (4.5) on the team, and he racked up 38 tackles.

According to the Daily Northwestern, Northwestern is further investigating the arrest before deciding Washington’s future with the program.
