Ohio State’s 2018 class still has a way to go before it catches up with Penn State.

But on Monday night, Urban Meyer landed a pretty big commitment from one of the top players of the 2018 class.

Jaiden Woodbey, a four-star safety from California announced that he was committing to Ohio State via Twitter, giving the Buckeyes their third hard commitment for the class, according to 247 Sports:

Woodbey is a 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior at St. John Bosco High School in California and is ranked as the nation’s 32nd-best player of the 2018 class. He’s also earned the honor as the No. 3 safety and the No. 4 player from California per 247 Sports Composite rankings.

He was also considering fellow B1G program Nebraska, as well as out of conference squads Oklahoma, USC and Alabama.

In his Twitter post, Woodbey said that this decision was tough, but that Ohio State stood above the rest in several areas:

Overall, there is one school that shines above the rest in terms of their academics, athletics, and spiritual aspects. For that reason, the School that I will represent on Saturdays and earn my degree from will be….The Ohio State University

It’s early in the recruiting process, but heading into Monday night, Ohio State ranked 19th nationally with the 2018 class and fourth in the B1G.

Woodbey becomes the second-highest rate player of the Buckeyes early 2018 class.
