Chalk up another key in-state recruit to Penn State.

It might not have always looked like Lamont Wade would give his verbal pledge to the Lions, but that’s exactly what he did on Saturday night.

The four-star cornerback (247sports composite) and No. 2 Pennsylvania recruit in the 2017 class announced that he’s coming to State College next year.

That’s a big recruiting victory for Franklin’s staff, which fought off the likes of Pitt, Tennessee UCLA and West Virginia to land Wade.

The Clairton, Pa. native is now Penn State’s top-rated 2017 recruit. He’s also expected to be the third early enrollee in the class.

Wade is rated the No. 5 cornerback and the No. 55 player overall in the 2017 class. The Under Armour All-American joined a class that now has 10 four-star recruits. As a result, PSU is up to No. 13 overall and No. 3 in the B1G in the 247sports class rankings.

The Lions are clearly capitalizing at the right time of the recruiting cycle. Commitments like Wade could follow in the final six weeks before signing day.
