As of this afternoon, the University of California head coaching position opened up.

With that, comes the obvious question of who will take over as the new man in charge? Twitter of course had numerous bursts of Chip Kelly comments, but Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman tweeted just eight minutes later about who could be in line for the position.

Justin Wilcox, who has been the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin for just one season now, is rumored as getting strong consideration by Feldman. It makes sense, too, when looking more into his background geographically.

Wilcox played his college ball at Oregon as a defensive back from 1996-99. From 2003-05 he spent time as California’s linebackers coach. Then from 2006-09, he was the defensive coordinator at Boise State.

After his time at Boise State, he got away from the west coast and spent two seasons at Tennessee before returning west and spending a year with Washington. Then, from 2014-15, he was USC’s defensive coordinator before taking the job with the Badgers.

Wilcox’s time spent out west is obvious, but is he itching to go back close to home as a head coach in the Pac 12?
