Damian Jackson has been through hell. But he’s not complaining about it one bit during Nebraska’s fall camp.

Jackson is a 25-year-old walk-on freshman for the Huskers this season. He stands 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 245-pounds. He’s also a former Navy SEAL. And one who’s been pushing some of his Nebraska teammates.

In an interview with the World-Hearld, fellow Husker DaiShon Neal was scary, in a good way.

“He’s a real quiet guy,” Neal told World-Hearld. “That’s what makes him so scary — you never know what he’s thinking.”

Neal raved about Jackson in the interview, saying former SEAL never complains and is always pushing his teammates. It’s the type of attitude that he believes should be contagious in Lincoln.

“He’s been through it all. He lost a best friend and he’s able to push through every day and work every day,” Neal said. “He doesn’t complain…that’s how I think everybody should be.”

As if transitioning from a military background to college football wasn’t difficult enough, Jackson also comes to Lincoln relatively inexperienced on the gridiron. According to his bio on Huskers.com, Jackson played baseball and soccer while in high school but was not a member of the football team.

Jackson’s story is incredible and one we should all keep an eye on this fall.
