Olumuyiwa Fashanu is beginning his NFL journey, heading to the league as a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Thursday night, Fashanu came off the board with the New York Jets moving to grab the Penn State lineman with the No. 11 overall pick. Coming out of the 2022 season, Fashanu was regarded as a budding NFL prospect, but he opted for one more season at the college level before moving on.

In 20 starts across the 2022-23 seasons, Fashanu never allowed a sack in 663 pass-blocking snaps. That type of performance netted Fashanu the Rimington-Pace Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year award and a consensus All-American nod.

Listed at 6-foot-6 and 312 pounds, Fashanu received the 3rd-best production score per the NFL’s Next Gen Stats of all offensive tackles at the NFL Combine. Labeled as high production and low maintenance, Fashanu was included in the top group of offensive tackles available that also included Notre Dame’s Joe Alt, Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga, Alabama’s JC Latham, and Washington’s Troy Fautanu.

Historically speaking, Fashanu’s selection gives Penn State an offensive lineman drafted in 4 straight NFL Drafts. Juice Scruggs was a second-round pick in 2023, a list that also includes Rasheed Walker (2022 7th round), Michal Menet (2021 7th round) and Will Fries (2021 7th round).

Overall, Fashanu is the best offensive line prospect from that group and is one of the best to ever come out of Penn State. He is the firsNittany Lion offensive lineman to become a first-round pick since Levi Brown in 2007.
