In one of the strangest academic and athletic school years in memory, Michigan State’s student-athletes set a new standard.

Michigan State announced on Tuesday that student-athletes maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3051, the highest in the history of the athletic department during the spring semester. It was the first time ever the department’s student-athletes had a cumulative GPA over 3.3, per a release from the school.

The accomplishment also marked the 21st straight semester in which the student-athletes at MSU produced better than a 3.0 GPA.

Twenty athletic teams posted a cumulative GPA of 3.0, tying another school record. There were also 545 student-athletes who finished the 2021 spring semester with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher and 118 students earned a 4.0.

It was an incredibly challenging academic and athletic year for student-athletes, so it’s awesome to see that Michigan State’s athletic programs enjoyed so much success in the classroom.
