Maryland online sports betting details

While legal retail brick-and-mortar sportsbook locations have been live in Maryland since December of 2021, the state hadn’t launched full online sports betting until Nov. 23, 2022.

It appears to be a first come, first serve basis for prospective sports betting entities after the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission agreed to begin approving sportsbooks on a rolling basis. A number of major U.S. sportsbooks have already set up retail brick-and-mortar sportsbook locations in Maryland, including Caesars Sportsbook at the Horshoe Casino in Baltimore.

Seeing how successful their in-person retail sportsbook operation has been, it’s fully expected that Caesars Sportsbook will be one of the first options available when legal sports betting goes live in Maryland.

Maryland online sports betting history

Dec. 9, 2021, marked the date of the first legal sports betting wagers placed at Maryland brick-and-mortar retail sportsbook locations. Though not yet officially launched, online sports betting was also legalized in the Maryland 2020 ballot referendum, with the legislation later signed into law in 2021.

Up to 60 mobile sports betting licenses and 30 retail sports betting licenses are set to be approved by the Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Commission on a rolling basis. That process is already underway, and the official launch of the online sports betting operation is now imminent.

Prospective sports bettors in Maryland will undoubtedly be treated to a plethora of generous promos and bonuses at sign-up, with Caesars Sportsbook among the more profitable options for new users.

Online sportsbooks expected to come to Maryland

Given the fact that up to 60 legal online sports betting licenses are up for grabs in Maryland, there should be a number of options for Maryland residents to choose from when online sports betting goes live. At the time of writing, most of the discussion seems to be centered around Spring 2023 as the earliest potential launch date.

Pre-registration will be a massive point of interest for many potential Maryland bettors, with the chance to get early access to all the best bonuses and promos. Seeing how successful the Maryland in-person retail sports books have been, it’s likely that the online sports betting launch will be even bigger and better.

Popular U.S. sportsbooks like PointsBet, Barstool, and Caesars have already set up retail sportsbook locations in Maryland, which should go a long way with new bettors when legal online sports betting officially goes live.

Caesars Sportsbook is a long-standing name in the betting industry, carving out a major market share for a number of reasons. Their online mobile sportsbook app is a very user-friendly way to get involved in all the action, available on iOS and Android devices, as well as in a traditional web browser setting.

When using the mobile app, Caesars’ sports bettors will be required to turn on their device’s location services to verify they are within legal sports betting boundaries. Once logged in and verified, users will see a schedule of upcoming or ongoing sporting events to wager on.

At the bottom of the screen, important tabs (Home, My Promos, My Bets, and Search) are available for quick access to easily navigate the sportsbook app. Sports and League icons at the top of the screen can be clicked to instantly pull up the respective sports’ betting lines in a scheduled format.

The amount applied to the aforementioned account will be the exact value of the bettor’s first real-money wager (up to $1,250).

Caesars Sportsbook History

Just like a host of other major U.S. sportsbooks, Caesars really started to make a push after the supreme court federally legalized sports betting in 2018. While Caesars had already been running an operation in Nevada, this was an opportunity to expand throughout the rest of the country.

A grand opening of their retail brick-and-mortar sportsbook in New Jersey spawned Caesars Sportsbook locations in 14 additional states where bettors can currently place in-person wagers. The major wagering entity acquired William Hill PLC in 2021 and committed to a rework of their mobile sports betting app, which has led to continued success as online sports betting takes off across the U.S.

With successful operations already established in neighboring areas, the Caesars Sportsbook Maryland launch should be massive in Spring 2023.
