Ohio Online sports betting is not yet legal, though there’s hope that it could go live in the Buckeye State as early as April 1, 2022. That date is far from being set in stone, however, as it depends on when the state’s House ultimately votes on Senate Bill 176—something that will be worth keeping an eye on over the ensuing months as prospective bettors in Ohio hold their collective breath waiting for legal online sports betting.

One of the most highly anticipated sportsbooks expected to rush to the starting line in the Buckeye State is DraftKings Sportsbook. Although the state has yet to officially clear a legal path, it’s expected that DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio will become a reality.

To be clear, due to the lack of official legislation being signed into law, nothing is official at this point. That said, all signs point toward the proverbial green light of DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio, making the fantasy sports and sports betting giant one of the first online sportsbooks to enter the market once online sports betting is legalized in the state.

As of August 2021, DraftKings Sportsbook is already available in a number of key states, including neighboring Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana and West Virginia. Additionally, DraftKings Sportsbook is also available in New Jersey, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, Tennessee and Virginia.

Those in an already-legal online sports betting state can get started today with DraftKings Sportsbook’s incredible $50 risk-free bet and $1,000 deposit bonus.

The following is Saturday Tradition’s DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio review.

DraftKings Sportsbook Review

User Interface

DraftKings Sportsbook has established itself as a leader in the online sports betting industry due to its top-notch app, which is available on iOS and Android. The application itself is incredibly approachable for new and experienced online sports bettors due to the excellent user interface.

DraftKings Sportsbook’s app features the signature black, grey, white and green color scheme that daily fantasy players grew accustomed to seeing as their DFS site spread nationwide. Team and league logos pop off the screen due to the colorful juxtaposition of them on the black and dark grey background.

Perhaps most importantly, the user’s ability to access pools, daily fantasy, and a stats hub from the app’s landing page is a seamless experience.

Promos & Bonuses

The expectation is that once DraftKings Sportsbook enters the fray in the Ohio online sports betting market, they will roll out a highly competitive new user signup promo similar to what they’ve offered in the past in other markets.

Deposit Bonus of Up to $1,000

DraftKings Sportsbook has traditionally offered a $1,000 deposit bonus in site credit that the sportsbook will match at a 20% rate for new users. For example, if a new user deposits $500, DraftKings Sportsbook will add a site credit to the user’s account at 20% of that total ($100).

Note: New users would need to deposit $5,000 in order to get the full $1,000 in site credit from DraftKings Sportsbook. Additional play-through requirements found in the fine print have also been standard practice for DraftKings Sportsbook. New users should absolutely read the full terms prior to deciding upon a first deposit amount.

$50 Free Bet

DraftKings Sportsbook’s $50 free bet in other states has exponentially simpler terms, though at a greatly reduced ceiling. New users who deposit at least $5 would be eligible to receive $50 in site credit instantly once a new account registration has been completed.

Deposit Methods

DraftKings Sportsbook offers a number of convenient, safe deposit options to fund your new sportsbook account, including:

In addition to the online and prepaid options above, DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio could potentially allow for deposits via cash at participating retail locations. Preexisting brick-and-mortar relationships are already in place in other states between DraftKings Sportsbook and Family Dollar, CVS Pharmacy, Dollar General, and 7-Eleven via a barcode generated within the app.

Withdrawal Methods

DraftKings OH Online Sportsbook’s anticipated withdrawal methods for pulling funds from the account will likely feature fewer options than the deposit side of things. In other states, account funds can only be pulled via check with an expected arrival window of 7-14 days or via the PayPal account established upon a prior deposit.

It remains to be seen if DraftKings Online Sportsbook Ohio will offer any additional withdrawal methods.

The stability of the DraftKings Online Sportsbook app is one of the app’s calling cards in other states. Quite frankly, the app’s stability is as good as it gets. We’ve spent months testing the New Jersey and Pennsylvania DraftKings Sportsbook apps, which have netted no reliability issues.

Other apps in the online sports betting industry have been plagued with pending bet screens timing out and canceling attempted bets. This is simply not the case with the DraftKings Sportsbook app.

As detailed in the user interface section of this review, navigating between the sportsbook’s landing page, pools, stats hub, and daily fantasy sections is incredibly straightforward without lag or timeout issues.

Variety of Action

DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio’s app is expected to thrive in terms of the variety of action offered, as has been seen in other markets. Although a number of competitors in the market have worked tirelessly to match DraftKings Sportsbook’s absurd variety of action, the sheer volume of sports, leagues and games bettors can place wagers on is on another level.

DraftKings Sportsbook offers action in practically every domestic and international league. The futures, game, and live in-game betting options offered by DraftKings Sportsbook are among the greatest number in the online sports betting industry.

If the DraftKings Online Sportsbook Ohio app launches as expected upon the legalization of online sports betting, the app will be a can’t-miss offering prospective bettors in the Buckeye State.

While a number of competitors such as FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM have narrowed the gap that previously existed with DraftKings Sportsbook, this remains perhaps the top online sports betting app in the country, and it’s expected to launch at some point in Ohio. The app’s stability, user-friendly UI, and promos should create an experience that will make bettors want to come back time and time again.

DraftKings Sportsbook Promotions

DraftKings OH Online Sportsbook is one of the sportsbooks we expect to see go live in the Buckeye State as early as April 1, 2022, depending on Ohio’s state government passing the required legislation.  If DraftKings Sportsbook continues to offer the current new user promos seen in other states, online sports bettors in Ohio could see offers such as:

$1,000 Deposit Match

Once DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio goes live in the Buckeye State, it is expected that new users will be eligible for a $1,000 deposit match. It’s crucial to note that DraftKings has traditionally matched new users’ deposits at a 20% rate, which means new users would need to deposit $5,000 in order to get the full $1,000 deposit match in site credit outline in the promotion.

$50 Free Bet

Assuming DraftKings OH Online Sportsbook rolls out their $50 free bet promotion, the terms for new users will be as straightforward as any offer found in online sports betting. New users at DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio should expect to earn an instant site credit of $50 with a qualifying deposit of $5 or more.

How to Register for a DraftKings Sportsbook Account

DraftKings OH Online Sportsbook’s registration process should closely resemble that of the registration processes found in other states. That means new users will likely need to follow these steps:

DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio’s Expected Launch Date

At this point, no official launch date has been established for when prospective bettors could sign up for DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio. Senate Bill 176 has gone through a number of hearings and has been announced to the Ohio House of Representatives. However, the earliest sports betting could launch isn’t until April 1, 2022.

States Where DraftKings Sportsbook is Available

Although DraftKings Sportsbook hasn’t gone live in Ohio yet, bettors in a number of other states can access the app. As of August 2021, DraftKings Sportsbook is available in ten states, including:

Which Sports Does DraftKings Sportsbook Allow for Betting On?

DraftKings Sportsbook offers perhaps the widest selection of sports to bet on in domestic and international leagues, including:

We expect that list to stack up favorably against any of the other online sports betting apps expected to come to the Buckeye State.

New Account Registration Requirements

As outline in Senate Bill 176, any prospective bettor will need to be at least 21 years of age. Once DraftKings Sportsbook Ohio launches as anticipated, new users will have to create an account with an email address and password. Additionally, new users will likely have to provide their:

DraftKings Sportsbook could potentially ask prospective bettors to provide a form of identification to establish an account, including a Social Security Number or a driver’s license.

DraftKings Sportsbook History

The process to getting online sports betting legalized in Ohio has been a bit of a legislative mess in 2021. After Senate Bill 176 was introduced to the Senate back on May 6, 2021, things appeared to be heading in the right direction. The Bill made it through the Select Committee on Gaming and was passed and amended by the Senate by mid-June.

However, things went awry once SB 176 made it to the House. Although it was introduced to the House on June 17 and referred to the Finance Committee on June 22,  further amendments were proposed and an attempt to link its passing to House Bill 29 effectively killed any chance of SB 176 making its way to the governor’s desk prior to the end of the legislative year. As such, the earliest date online sports betting could launch in Ohio is April 1, 2022.

Given the revenue being generated in neighboring states, it stands to reason that SB 176 will be passed at some point when the House comes back to work. If SB 176 were to be passed with the 10% tax rate, it could result in quite a high source of tax revenue for the Buckeye State. Ohio’s eastern neighbor Pennsylvania taxes sports betting revenue at an astounding 36%, but it’s worth noting that the Keystone State generated $9,958,161 in tax revenue in June 2021 alone.

As for DraftKings Sportsbook, they’ve generated plenty of revenue in other states in their own right. Across the eastern border in Pennsylvania, DraftKings Sportsbook’s brick-and-mortar partner The Meadows announced $5,741,200 of online sports betting revenue in June 2021, while Michigan’s Bay Mills Indian Community reported $3,308,005. Resorts Digital Gaming, the partner of DraftKings, FOX Bet, and Resorts, reported $13,023,157 of online sports betting revenue in New Jersey.  DraftKings Sportsbook also brought in the second-most online sports betting revenue in the state of Indiana in June 2021, combining with theScore Bet to garner $6,232,511 of revenue.
