ESPN analyst Marcus Spears doesn’t think the Chicago Bears should waste any time when it comes to getting Justin Fields under center. On Wednesday’s edition of Get Up, Spears said that the former Ohio State quarterback should be the Week 1 starter.

Wednesday, the NFL also released part of the schedule for the 2021 schedule. The Bears will play the Los Angeles Rams to open the season, meaning Fields would face star defensive lineman Aaron Donald.

After the schedule was released, Spears was asked by host Mike Greenberg if he wanted to change his mind after seeing the Bears-Rams matchup.

“Hell no,” Spears said. “Get introduced to the man that tears everybody up. And obviously that’s why they wanted that athleticism. That’s why we beat the table before the draft saying we need to have guys that improvise and go off schedule. There will be no better time for Justin Fields to go off schedule than playing that animal — number 99. It’ll be a great test for not only him but for Matt Nagy and how he can deal with these types of defenses and these types of fronts that Justin Fields will face. I would be excited to see him against him.”

The Bears traded up in the first round of the draft to get Fields at the No. 11 spot. Head coach Matt Nagy recently said that he plans to utilize both Fields and Andy Dalton for the upcoming season, but obviously made no mention of who would fit that starting role.

Fields was drafted to be the quarterback of the future in Chicago. It should be interesting to see how quickly he gets handed the keys to the offense.
