Purdue was a finalist to land UAB transfer defensive lineman Tony Fair, but it came up short of landing him.

On Wednesday, Fair announced his commitment to Auburn, picking the Tigers over Purdue and Ole Miss. Those three schools had been listed as finalists for his pledge earlier this week. Fair did give a special shoutout to the Boilermakers staff.

“I thank EVERY coach for finding interest in me. Especially Coach (Mark) Hagen at Purdue. Thank you Coach,” Fair wrote on Twitter. “But with that being said the team I have Chosen to finish my Last college season with is The Auburn Tigers.”

Fair spent the past two seasons at UAB after transferring in from Pima Community College. He was an honorable mention All-C-USA selection following the 2019 season, totaling 36 tackles, 5 for loss, a sack and forced a pair of fumbles. Last season, he appeared in all nine games for the Blazers and posted 21 stops with 3 tackles for loss and a sack.

Before arriving at UAB, Fair was at Pima Community College for two years and racked up 144 tackles and 10.5 stops for loss. At his next destination, he’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.
