UCLA freshman Maya Brady hit a towering home run on Thursday, and her uncle took notice.
Her uncle, of course, is legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady. The home run was against Arizona, so Tom took the opportunity to take a jab at longtime teammate (and Arizona alum) Rob Gronkowski.
Here’s the home run, and Tom’s response:
Hey @RobGronkowski next time you need a ball dropped 600 ft out of the air in Tucson just ask Maya https://t.co/qh8sydpCHT
— Tom Brady (@TomBrady) May 14, 2021
The “600-foot” part of this joke is referring to Rob Gronkowski’s record-setting catch from earlier this offseason. He caught a football that was dropped out of the sky from 600 feet. It took Gronk a few attempts, but he eventually caught it on his third attempt.
Maya’s first multi-home run game of her career came at a great time. UCLA was facing No. 8 Arizona in one of the Bruins’ biggest regular season series of the season.
Maya is having an outstanding season for the Bruins, who are one of the best teams in the country this season. They are 39-3 this season, and she is hitting .343 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI. Her 11 homers are tied for the team lead with two other players.
