Nebraska RB announces decision to enter NCAA transfer portal

A Nebraska running back has announced his decision to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
Wednesday, redshirt freshman Ronald Thompkins announced on Twitter that he has decided to explore his opportunities outside of Lincoln. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound running back out of Loganville, Georgia spent two seasons with the Huskers.
“The thing about life is that it is a journey and there are stops along the way,” Thompkins wrote. “Nebraska has changed my life and brought a lot of joy. I’m excited to see where my next stop will be, with that being (said) my name is officially in the transfer portal.”

Thompkins did not play during his first season in Nebraska, as a high school injury kept him sidelined for most of the year while recovering. Last fall, he appeared in 2 games and totaled 24 rushing yards on 5 carries and added a catch for 10 yards.
By using a redshirt year in 2019 and with the NCAA’s blanket waiver for the 2020 season, Thompkins will still have all four years of eligibility to use at his next destination.
As a high school prospect, Thompkins was a 3-star recruit who ranked as one of the Top 500 overall players in the class and the No. 5 all-purpose back of 2019.
