Illinois fans who might’ve been nervous about Andre Curbelo’s future at Illinois can take a deep breath. He has no plans to leave the program.

With assistant coaches Chin Coleman and Orlando Antigua leaving Illinois to join John Calipari’s staff at Kentucky, there had been some unsubstantiated rumors that Curbelo had interest in leaving Champaign and heading to Lexington. In a recent Twitter post, the rising sophomore cleared the air.

“It is crazy to me how the media now-a-days just puts words out there that have never come out of my mouth just to have something to say or write an article on,” Curbelo wrote on Twitter. “I WAS NEVER THINKING ON TRANSFERRING TO KENTUCKY. Is it clear enough for you guys?”

No media posted on Curbelo possibly transferring to Kentucky, but it did pop up on fan-related posts on social media accounts. Still, he was clearly frutstrated by the notion that he’d be leaving Illinois.

Curbelo had an outstanding first season in the B1G. He was named the B1G Sixth Man of the Year and was also named to the B1G All-Freshmen Team after averaging 9.1 points, 4.2 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game for the Fighting Illini last year.

Curbelo will be a key piece for an Illinois team that will be losing a lot of talent to the NBA Draft and the transfer portal.
