The Denver Broncos might’ve walked away from last month’s NFL Draft with the steal of the year.
In the fifth round, the Broncos were able to land former Indiana defensive back Jamar Johnson, who had been one of the top secondary players in the B1G during the 2020 season. It wasn’t just last season in which Johnson emerged as a star, though.
According to the numbers from Pro Football Focus (PFF), Johnson was incredibly disciplined across coverage snaps during his time at Indiana. He played in 406 coverage snaps while with the Hoosiers. He was targeted 44 times and came away with 7 interceptions and didn’t allow a single touchdown.
That’s a pretty impressive stat line.

Johnson was a key piece to Indiana’s 6-2 season in 2020. He piled up 43 tackles, intercepted 4 passes, broke up 4 more and forced a fumble.
Johnson was a two-time first-team All-B1G selection during his time at IU. He spent three seasons with the Hoosiers, playing in 31 career games and registering 70 tackles, 14 pass break-ups, 7 interceptions, 4 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
Denver should be pretty pleased to have landed the former Hoosier safety in the fifth round.
