A former Johns Hopkins guard is headed to Minnesota.
The Golden Gophers received a commitment from senior guard Joey Kern on Tuesday evening. He made his announcement public with a post on social media and will have one year of eligibility when he arrives at Minnesota.
“Excited to say I’ll be playing my final year of hoops at the U of M!” Kern wrote on Twitter. “I appreciate all the people who have helped make this dream come true and am extremely grateful for my Hopkins family.”

Kern played in 84 career games at Johns Hopkins, making 81 starts. He averaged 9.2 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game during three seasons with Johns Hopkins from 2017-20. He also collected 100 steals and averaged 29 minutes per game for his career.
The Norwalk, Iowa native scored 770 career points, grabbed 262 rebounds and dished out 124 assists while at Johns Hopkins. He is joining a Golden Gophers team that is under leadership, with Ben Johnson replacing Richard Pitino as head coach.
Minnesota ended the 2020-21 season with a 14-15 record.
