After spending his first full season at Nebraska as a walk-on, freshman running back Jaquez Yant has earned a scholarship. He made the announcement with a post on Twitter.
Tuesday, Yant announced that he has earned a scholarship after a strong showing throughout spring. He redshirted during his first season with the Huskers and did not see any game action in the 2020 campaign.
“It’s official I’m a scholarship player,” Yant wrote on Twitter. “I want to give a huge shoutout to Coach (Scott) Frost and Coach (Travis) Fisher for believing in me, I can’t explain how excited (I am) right now. This is a blessing.”

Yant was a 3-star recruit out of high school and chose to be a walk-on at Nebraska. The native of Tallahassee, Florida shine bright in the Huskers’ spring game back on May 1.
While several running backs earned touches throughout that game, Yant was probably the most surprising player to enjoy a solid day out of the backfield. He piled up 63 yards on 9 carries, which included a 21-yard touchdown run in the game.
Yant’s improvement gives Nebraska several options out of the backfield for the upcoming season.
