Next in line: Duke reportedly already has found its next head basketball coach

Big news shook the college basketball world on Wednesday, with Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reporting that Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski would be stepping down following the 2021-22 season. That prompted the question: who will be next in line?
Apparently, there’s already an answer.
Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde reported later on Wednesday that associate head coach Jon Scheyer will take over the program following the 2021-22 season. That will be an in-house hire for the Blue Devils.

Scheyer played under Coach K at Duke from 2006-10 and then spent three seasons playing professionally outside of the United State. In 2015, Scheyer returned to Duke to joined Krzyzewski’s staff as an assistant. He was named the associate head coach in 2018.
Krzyzewski spent most of his career as the head coach at Duke, though he started his career in coaching at Indiana under Bob Knight in 1974. After one season in Bloomington, Coach K was named the head coach at Army, where he spent five seasons.
In his career, Krzyzewski posted a record of 1,170-361 and led the Blue Devils to 36 NCAA Tournament appearances. Duke won 12 ACC regular season titles, 15 ACC Tournament crowns, played in 12 Final Fours and won 5 national championships under Coach K.
Last season, Duke finished with a 13-11 record.
