Detroit Lions DT, former Buckeye suspended for violation of NFL substance abuse policy

A former Ohio State defensive lineman and member of the Detroit Lions will have to miss three games during his second season in the NFL.
MLive.com reported that defensive tackle Jashon Cornell will miss three games without pay because of a violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He will still be permitted to participate in the offseason program, training came and preseason games. Cornell will not be allowed to practice or play through the first three weeks of the 2021 season.
Cornell will be eligible to return in a Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears. He will miss games against the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens.
Cornell made a statement on social media regarding the situation.
“Last year after losing a dear friend of mine I made a mistake that was out of my character,” Cornell said. “I have owned it and worked on learning from it. Since then I have grown as a person and now a better man. With that being said I apologize to the Lions organization and the fans. I have learned from my mishap.”
Cornell was a seventh-round selection of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. Last year, he was placed on injured reserve in late August and did not see any game action, per his player profile on DetroitLions.com.
