There will be a lot of new faces in new positions for Michigan State’s basketball program heading into the 2021-22 season.

Monday morning, Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press reported that the offseason staff overhaul has been completed with some notable changes. The news comes as the Spartans went through some major changes, both with players entering the NCAA transfer portal and in terms of staff change.

Solari reported on the following changes in East Lansing:

  • Doug Wojik as assistant coach (replaces Dane Fife)
  • Mark Montgomery as recruiting coordinator
  • Austin Thornton as video coordinator
  • Garrett Briningstool as director of operations
  • Matt McQuaid as assistant director of operations

Head coach Tom Izzo will be entering his 27th season as the head coach at Michigan State this upcoming year. Last year, the Spartans finished with a 15-13 record and a 9-11 mark in B1G play. They earned a bid to play in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament, falling to UCLA in overtime of the first game.

Michigan State has won 10 B1G regular season titles, 6 tournament titles, reached 8 Final Fours and won a national championship under Izzo.
