FOX college football analyst Joel Klatt is in favor of the College Football Playoff expanding to a 12-team format. There is one change he’d like to make to the proposed model, though.
Klatt took to Twitter to say that he’d like to see more of the College Football Playoff games played on campuses — particularly the first two rounds of the event. He doesn’t believe that tying in bowl games holds much significance and would like to see teams host games.
“The first AND quarterfinal round of new CFP should be played on campus,” Klatt tweeted. “Virtually no need to ‘save’ some bowls which have lost most, if not all, of their significance. 6 champions & 2 highest ranked at-large programs should all get a home game. Let’s get CFB back to CAMPUS.”

Under the current proposed model, only the first round games would be played on campuses. The six highest-ranked conference champions would earn an automatic bid and six would receive at-large bids. The four highest-ranked conference champions would receive a first-round bye.
Klatt’s proposal would then mean that only the semifinal round and national championship are held at neutral site or bowl locations — which complies with the current format. It’s not a bad idea, especially as travel could pose some problems for some fanbases.
The College Football Playoff has not guaranteed anything at this time.
