June continues to be a busy month for Minnesota on the recruiting front. Monday, the Golden Gophers added another prospect to the 2022 class.

P.J. Fleck reeled in another commitment on Monday, landing 3-star defensive lineman Anthony Smith, a native of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. He becomes the ninth player to commit to the Golden Gophers this month.

Smith announced his decision with a video on Twitter:

Smith is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound defensive lineman who ranks as one of the Top 600 overall prospects in the 2022 class. He’s considered one of the Top 100 defensive linemen and a Top 15 talent out of Pennsylvania.

Four other B1G programs offered Smith, with Minnesota beating out Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska and Penn State from the conference. Other offers came in from Iowa State, NC State, Ole Miss, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

During the 2020 season, Smith proved to be a force at the high school level. He was credited with 43 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 9 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.

Currently, Smith is the second-highest-rated player to commit to Minnesota’s 2022 class. He’s behind only 4-star defensive lineman Trey Bixby. The Gophers’ class ranks No. 28 nationally and No. 7 in the B1G.
